Huge first half guides Loyola to a 11–7 victory over Towson.
After back to back wins in just five days, the positive vibes have returned for the Loyola men’s lacrosse team. The Greyhounds (2–2) jumped out to a 6–2 halftime lead at Towson on Wednesday night and never looked back as the Greyhounds won 11–7.
Sophomore attackman Jordan Germershausen had a career night by scoring 4 goals for Loyola which ties his personal best. And Pat Spencer finished with a 5-point night (1g/4a)
Since the devastating losses to Virginia and Johns Hopkins the Greyhounds looked like they have a renewed focus and are overcoming the adversity the right way.
“I’m very proud of this teams focus. They are a good practice team and they go hard after each other,” said Loyola head coach Charley Toomey. “We are starting to out some wins together and as this team goes it’s always about the next practice and about the next game. And we’ve already started talking in the locker room about Holy Cross.”
The focus and chemistry was evident early in the first quarter as both the offense and the defense were clicking.
Loyola goalie, Jacob Stover- who had a big night with 16 saves- admitted the losses to Virginia and Hopkins were tough to swallow but the team knew they had remain focused. “We got together as a team and asked how can we fix this and what do we need to do and address it in practice.”
On the other side, the Tigers just couldn’t get out of the first half hole they put themselves in. The turnovers were a huge factor late in the game when Towson was pulling within a couple goals. But couldn’t recover after committing three consecutive turnovers.
Afterwards, captain Ryan Drenner (2g) said this type of play from the Tigers was unacceptable.
Loyola will now move on to conference play this weekend against Holy Cross. While Towson (2–1) will look to get back on the winning track against UMBC on Saturday.
