.@CalvertHallLax advances to the MIAA-A conference title game!

Cardinals throttle Loyola Blakefield, 12–8 in semifinal game

You couldn’t have asked for a better for first quarter if you’re Calvert Hall. The faceoff unit was humming, winning 5-of-9 and the clearing game was sufficient, 6 perfect clears.

But the Cardinals offense exploded JT Bugliosi, Jacob Kelly, and Zach Green all had hat-tricks to propel Calvert Hall to Thursday’s MIAA A-Conference championship game with a 11–4 win over rivals,Loyola Blakefield.

“This is a really good group of kids and I’m blessed to be coaching them,” said Calvert Hall head coach Bryan Kelly.

Calvert Hall will be going for their first conference championship since 2012 on Thursday

“I thought we shot the ball well, (Jake) Stout is a phenomenal goalie for (Loyola Blakefield) I thought he made some really great saves early. That kept them in it. Loyola is a great program they weren’t going to fold.”

A week ago, the Cardinals beat Loyola Blakefield on a last second fourth quarter goal. So even though Calvert Hall was ahead Monday night, they weren’t going to take the Dons lightly.

Loyola Blakefield opened the second half with back to back goals by Liam Bateman (2g, 1a) and Jack Koras (1g, 1a) to put the Dons down by five goals.

But Calvert Hall’s first half scoring spree was too much for Loyola Blakefield to overcome.

“I thought we needed to start faster. They are a very good team and are athletic all over the field. I didn’t think we cleared well enough early,” said Dons head coach Ben Rubeor. “We could have finished a little better. We happened to not make the plays today.”

“We always dug ourselves a hole, we could never get a run going,” said Phil Weis who had a hat trick for Loyola Blakefield.
