Season Preview: Gilman is back! The 2018 Greyhounds are ready to be unleashed!
The Greyhounds are ready to get back to being a top tier team in the MIAA-A conference. Gilman has been in a rebuilding phase the past couple seasons. It has been seven years since the Greyhounds won the conference championship. And their last winning season was in 2014.
Head coach Brooks Matthews has been patient while the program has taken some lumps the past couple seasons and focused on teaching the game.
Finally, the rebuilding looks to be over and Gilman is ready to get back to being serious contenders for the conference title.
Gilman finished .500 last season and had some bright spots to feel motivated about. For example an upset win over Boys’ Latin late in the season. Even though the Greyhounds missed the postseason, that win was a glimmer of hope that team needed.
And it was a sign that this season would be when things would turn around.
The thing that’s in Gilman’s favor this season is that the Greyhounds have solid depth and an upperclass group that is ready to be unleashed.
The defense and at midfield will be strong areas this season for Gilman. Keep an eye out for junior Michigan commit Hank Bethel to lead the defense. Also, watch for Boston University commit, junior goalie Noah Klein, a transfer from Friends School.
Outlook:
“We have more depth than in the previous couple years and are anxious to get back to the top of the MIAA. With a mix of veterans and young players, we have many talented players at each position, and so our coaches expect highly competitive practices to translate into success on game day.” Brooks Matthews
