Gilman opens season with a victory over Ponte Vedra (FL)

Gilman opened their season on Thursday at home against the defending Florida state champions, Ponte Vedra. The Greyhounds were tested the entire game as the Sharks kept coming and never lost steam. But Gilman was able to come away with the 11-9 victory to open the 2020 season.

The Greyhounds were slow out of the gate whereas the Sharks looked like a team that had played seven games so far this season.

Sam King didn’t waste time and put Gilman on the scoreboard. King had four goals and two assists. Jake Tompkins also had a three goal game as well as Dutch Furlong having a multi-goal game for the Greyhounds.

Ponte Vedra came prepared and ready to play. The Sharks never wavered but Gilman was able to find the back of the net a few more times. Although, junior Joe Taraboletti had a four-goal game for the Sharks, who will play another Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) A- Conference opponent in Boys’ Latin on Saturday.

Gilman’s next game will be on the road against Georgetown Prep (D.C.) on March 10.
