During these first couple of weeks of the regular season teams are trying to develop an identity and build team chemistry. The out-of-conference schedule is excellent for this. You get to see great top 10 high school matchups. And observe how each team is just getting their feet wet and trying to continue to knock the rust off from a long offseason.

On Tuesday afternoon, fans saw that in the matchup between Bullis (D.C.) and McDonogh. Both teams didn’t score a goal until under 2 minutes left in the first quarter when Eagles senior Dane Swanson made it 1-0 in favor of McDonogh.
McDonogh would rip off two more goals before halftime.

The second half opened with the Eagles scoring three more unanswered goals.
It took midway through the third quarter for the Bulldogs to get on the scoreboard. Bullis would go on a three goal run of their own.
But McDonogh, who had already defeated Gonzaga (D.C.) this past weekend, was clicking on all cylinders. The Eagles would pick up their second victory of the season by defeating Bullis, 8-5.
Bullis (1-1) next game will be against DeMatha Catholic on March 12.
McDonogh (2-0) will face Philly powerhouse Haverford on March 13.
Both teams had bright spots and low spots during this game. It was obvious both teams are still figuring things out and trying to clean up the fundamentals. The turnovers were an issue for both teams. But McDonogh and Bullis have a ton of talent and will get better as the season goes along.
